In 1997, Jan Johnpier was invited to create a website for an organization—a pivotal moment that sparked a lifelong passion. To prepare, she enrolled in several courses, including an introductory class on HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), the foundational code used to structure and format web content. From text and hyperlinks to tables, forms, and images, HTML opened the door to a new creative and technical frontier.
That initial spark led Jan to pursue a degree in Computer Science, deepening her expertise and laying the groundwork for a career that blends innovation, integrity, and thoughtful design. Since then, she has designed websites for a wide range of organizations and continues to study the ever-evolving field of web development. Her certifications include HTML, CSS, and SEO—tools she uses to ensure every site is both visually compelling and strategically optimized.
In 2011, Jan launched her services publicly under the name JJ Web Designs, later rebranding as Lake Ontario Design to reflect her regional roots and broader vision. Originally based in the lakefront community of Wilson, NY, the studio now operates out of Ransomville, NY, offering custom website design to organizations, small businesses, and individuals throughout Niagara County and beyond. Jan specializes in crafting custom websites that blend technical precision with visual clarity, tailored to each client’s unique goals. In addition to platform-based builds, she designs and codes custom HTML websites tailored to each client’s needs, and develops custom WordPress.org builds for scalable, content-rich solutions. As a Wix Partner and Editor X specialist, she also brings deep expertise in flexible, modern platforms.
